Why do people troll celebrities?

Rumours about celebrities on social media

The world of fame and fortune can be a difficult one to navigate. For celebrities, their lives are often the target of scrutiny from their fans and haters alike. Unfortunately, the rise of the internet has made it easier for people to express their opinions online, often in unsavoury ways. Internet trolls have become a pervasive problem for celebrities, often making cruel comments or posting negative comments about them on social media.

One of the most common tactics used by internet trolls is to start rumours about celebrities. They will often post false information about them or make outrageous claims to try to get a reaction from their followers. This can be incredibly damaging to a celebrity’s reputation, especially if the rumours spread quickly.

What motivates internet trolls to harass celebrities

The motivation behind internet trolls can vary, but typically it is to get a rise out of people or to disrupt conversations with malicious or provocative comments. Some people may also troll for attention or to feel powerful.

Internet trolls are individuals who lack empathy and seek to provoke strong reactions from other people. They often enjoy the sense of power and control they experience when they provoke strong emotional responses from their victims. Trolls can be found in a variety of online settings, including social media platforms, forums, and comment sections. They often operate anonymously, making it difficult to identify and take action against them. The psychological motivation of trolls is complex, but typically involves a desire to feel powerful and in control. They may target individuals, entire communities, or entire platforms and their aim is to cause disruption, distress, and chaos. Despite the serious impact of their behaviour, the law often struggles to keep up with the technology and many trolls continue to evade justice.

Internet trolls are often characterised by a lack of empathy and an enjoyment of provoking reactions from other people. This is typically done in an attempt to gain a feeling of power and control. Trolling can take on many forms, such as posting offensive or inflammatory comments on social media platforms, sending harassing messages, or deliberately spreading false information. The behaviour typically causes emotional distress among the victims and can have far-reaching consequences. Such activities can have a damaging impact on an individual’s reputation and can even lead to psychological distress. To protect individuals from these potential risks, it is important to remain vigilant and take the appropriate steps to prevent and address incidents of trolling.

Can Internet trolls be identified

Yes. It is possible to obtain disclosure of the identification of most internet trolls.

Working as a lawyer based in the United Kingdom who has been involved in several high-profile cases where I have successfully obtained court orders to disclose the identities of internet trolls, I am often surprised by how easily such information can be obtained, that help us identify internet trolls who post abusive or offensive messages on social media or online forums under anonymous usernames or pseudonyms.

One of the ways in which my firm has made it possible to disclose the identity of internet trolls is by using the legal system to our client’s advantage and by understanding the various rules of disclosure in various jurisdictions around the world.

In the UK, for example, there are several legal avenues that can be pursued to obtain the identity of an anonymous internet user, such as a Norwich Pharmacal order, a disclosure order or a court order to unmask an anonymous user.

I regularly work with social media companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Google to identify internet trolls who have used their platforms to post abusive messages. Social media companies are often reluctant to disclose user information due to privacy concerns, but they are required by law to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and legal authorities when there is a legitimate reason to do so.

Another approach is to take legal action against the internet service provider (ISP) that provides the troll with internet access. This can be an effective way of obtaining the troll’s identity, as the ISP will have records of the troll’s IP address and other identifying information.

Can you make trolling of a celebrity ever stop

Yes. Always be hopeful.

If you are a celebrity who has been trolled on the internet, there is hope. I have been successful in disclosing the identity of internet trolls by using a combination of legal and technological strategies, as well as working with social media companies and internet service providers to obtain the necessary information. However, it’s important to note that the legal system and technology are constantly evolving, and the strategies used by lawyers such as myself may need to adapt accordingly.
