Yes. It is possible to obtain disclosure of the identification of most internet trolls.
Working as a lawyer based in the United Kingdom who has been involved in several high-profile cases where I have successfully obtained court orders to disclose the identities of internet trolls, I am often surprised by how easily such information can be obtained, that help us identify internet trolls who post abusive or offensive messages on social media or online forums under anonymous usernames or pseudonyms.
One of the ways in which my firm has made it possible to disclose the identity of internet trolls is by using the legal system to our client’s advantage and by understanding the various rules of disclosure in various jurisdictions around the world.
In the UK, for example, there are several legal avenues that can be pursued to obtain the identity of an anonymous internet user, such as a Norwich Pharmacal order, a disclosure order or a court order to unmask an anonymous user.
