Why Social Media Is So Powerful?
Social media derives much of its power from the constant streaming of our imagination:
We imagine that we have loads of friends;
We imagine that we stand in front of the store counter when we write a disapproving online review;
We imagine that we are detectives when we post on the internet our suspicious about almost anything. On the internet you could be anyone and everyone.
We imagine that we are a prosecutor a Judge and a Jury and all at the same time when we write our critical opinion about a person or about a business;
We also imagine that we are individuals of virtue when we utilise social media to express our disapproval of anything and everything that does not meet with our own moral standards.
Because we can use the internet anonymously, often we mislead others, letting others use their own imagination as to who they are dealing with.
The internet and social media, through the collective wisdom and madness of the crowd is very judgemental and could be unforgiving.
We should all consider very carefully before we write things that are critical or personal of another person. I always ask myself a simple question…How would I feel if somebody wrote that about me.
And never, ever, would I write about somebody when I am angry or upset. Excessive emotions cloud good judgement and almost always ends badly.
